Girls rescolarisées, summary
Here again the 8 girls that we sponsor, this time in their respective home environment and housing.
remembered that in September 2009, we were previewing a small deficit in the schooling of girls relative to boys in "our" school. Thanks for mayor of Champs sur Marne and our loyal donors we have re-schooling of girls whose parents could not afford the cost of schooling. Note that in a family, parents may well assume the costs for all children ... except one, that's where we work. Thus, all children of these families attend school.

Sixty Year Old Woman Bigbreasts
Change name all four mornings
A contractor with whom we work called Sutee Maniam, it is now called Mr Pee Aekasith Maniamnithichot. All very formally to Vital Thai is computerized for decades and exemplary reliability.
The reason is that some names are likely at certain times of life. The surname does not matter in Asia. In passing we note that the corollary of the name in the civil state, ie age, no importance either, it will be another post.
In Thailand, EVERYONE has a nickname of a single syllable because real names are often too complicated for us to remember. Unless a person can have several nicknames depending on the medium in which it stands: it can be called Em with friends at work and Mac.
's surname with first name is new in Thailand. When the administration got the idea to put a different name on each person, previously existed only nicknames, they are public servants who chose or did people choose their names in lists. From
Nowadays, if you can change the name, it costs 50 cents, is perfectly legal, we can even invent a name to the condition that he not part of the royal-sounding names.
In Cambodia, where the registrar is still higher (excluding the colonial period), it is even more complicated and uncertain. Normally a child has a name and takes as a surname the name of his father. But in well-established families, the name exists and it precedes the name, including the son of Hun Sen called Hun Manet. See the Wiki page of Hun Sen (the country's strong man) tells us how we change the name too Cambodia. Hun Sen was born Hun Nal. His wife Bun Rany Bun was born Hieng Sat.
To all this is added the problem of transliteration. Indeed, all these names are inscribed in Khmer on the books when it is necessary to mention them (in this example), we must "translate" in French. Often they are translated into a kind of international phonetic English crossbred with a touch of French, while taking into account the transliterations made by French officials as a hundred years ago. At that time, it was decided that the common name Toyt, meaning small and pronounced "toille te" would be written in our alphabet Touch. Nowadays, "Touch" is still used but if you say "touch" you are totally missing the point.
Similarly, a name that contains the syllable IT is spelled Ti, T , Thi Tea or according to our mood, therefore, do not be shocked to see the names of some of our friends will change over time.
The Thai system works well because everyone is assigned a corresponding # # to our INSEE at birth. This one is most important is that it guarantees your nationality, your existence, the fact that you are not confused with another human being, the name is just to look pretty, it is poetry, and it's not nearly enough to identify someone, this is not the John Smith who will tell us otherwise. Hence the name, you can change it. Anyway, in a few years, a person will be identified by its genetic code, so we (well, our children) will change its name as we see fit.
The Cambodian system is still a little pregnant, it must be said, working well in Phnom Penh, less well in the provinces. Despite simpler names than the Thais, the Khmer also use diminutives willingly and nicknames, and Sareth will make a call and our friend Reth Hean So, is called Map.
Map we'll soon be very good news.

Ipl For Broken Capillaries
deadly stampede in Phnom Penh were not our friends
course the deaths of 350 people because of an animal stampede is infinitely sad, even outrageous. We remember that in 1992 already, 16 people were killed in similar circumstances. Since then, we repeat to everyone NOT to mingle with crowds as large.
Our friends in Phnom Penh did not come out yesterday and Sre Ambel not afford to travel to the capital (see interview with schoolchildren conducted a few months).
That said, 2 million people to the Water Festival in Phnom Penh, it proves, once again, that the Khmer spend a lot for parties and celebrations. Proportionally, this budget is much higher in Cambodia than in France because the party (including weddings, we'll come back soon) has a fundamental social sense.

2.2 million people living in poverty should receive medical care free at the end of the year, an increase of nearly one million people compared to last year, according to the Ministry of Health. About 1.1 million people gained access to free medical care during the first six months of the year. In total, 1.5 million people have received free care last year.

Finally A teacher in our school
This is not Miss World, Miss or even Cambodia (see picture on our previous blogs) but it is the first element of parity. We welcome Sharon Yoong, the first teacher in our school. She is in charge of level three, the where there is more students, a gift from her male colleagues.
:-)
Some pictures from inside the class that we've built with the regional council of Ile de France and the General Council of Seine et Marne. The head teacher uses both classroom and office. Such decoration "welcoming" is rare in Cambodia.
Having enough classrooms (room for a group class), can develop them as you like and have a more effective pedagogy for the displays remain in place versus urban schools where two or three class groups alternate in the same premises (one class during the morning and in the afternoon), which prevents students and teachers to leave anything on the premises.

The eight girls we serve (see photos in previous blog) have taken so much school.
To answer a legitimate question: in the family whose mother died recently (see previous blog), there is a girl younger than Tea that we sponsor, is she educated?
Yes, the family was enough to send a child to school (the youngest) and not enough for two.
Other questions related to this family : With all ages of youth work (if you consider that 12 to 13 years is a reasonable age), they have enough income to get by, right? No, because they are "laborers" who have no permanent job and give helping hand to neighbors.

Two deaths in Sre Ambel
The little sister in infancy, Don Dee (Rom Vandy) passed away lightning and bloody diarrhea. Cause of infant mortality the most widespread in Cambodia. Unfortunately, no wonder, then.
The day before, more dramatic, the mother of Chan Tea died. The sudden illness that also involves vomiting of blood. Death before the age is part of family life miserable.
These two people are not victims of lightning attacks but lack of insurance. Poor people wait until the last moment to go to hospital and it's too late. Health should not be a flower that is poor, it is a human right.
Last week, 24 hours apart, the village had two deaths to mourn among the families we sponsor.

The shaven-headed boys is a custom: the funeral day, the little son or son or friends sometimes shave their heads.

The school year was held on 1 October but already the students are on vacation because of Pchum Ben, the feast of the dead, which explains in the previous post.
In statistics below, we see immediately that this year, CP (grade 1), there are more girls to boys.
The total number of 251 children including 123 girls. Perfect parity. Some years there are more girls than boys, sometimes the opposite is the repetition of either the school entry delayed for some girls (or boys).
Anyway, this parity would not be so perfect if we n'aidions than 8 girls that parents had not enrolled in school in October last year. Thanks to you, we have enrolled and will continue this effort so that these kids do not drop out now.
More details on these girls there, soon.

- After childbirth, women should consume medicinal wine and chillies to facilitate circulation and warm up.
- To keep a beautiful skin, it is advisable to spread a tuber crushed and mixed with white rice alcohol.

MAINTENANCE - Father Francis Ponchaud" The court of hypocrisy and injustice "
People in rural areas are they interested in Khmer Rouge trial?
Not at all. I walk alongside the Khmer people, I listen to the confidences of many people. Well, actually, they prefer to know first what they will eat. That is their number one problem. And many complain: "We judge the Khmer Rouge, who killed the people but not judge the Khmer Rouge in power in Phnom Penh! . There is a resentment against Hun Sen, who is very strong! The Khmers are angry against the government ...
If Cambodians lose interest, do you think the trial will continue?
In a few months there will be a question of confidence: "is continued or stopped?" . I suspect they will stop. This court is the court of international hypocrisy and injustice. I told the prosecutor. It has not rained, but I persist and I sign. Damn, all these countries who want to try the Khmer Rouge, they all have supported for 14 years until 1989!
is the position of the United States that bothers you? I
the recollection of an anecdote. It was during a symposium in Oslo in 1978, Jimmy Carter sent a telegram calling Pol Pot's largest "violator of human rights of humanity" . With Charles Meyer, former advisor to King Sihanouk, we slammed our desk and we left. What they have done them, the Americans with King Sihanouk? Vietnam? And the American bombing of the Ho Chi Minh Trail? And then in 1973 when they razed Cambodia so that the kingdom does not become a rear base of the Vietcong? United States also violated human rights with impunity! When the Khmer Rouge was overthrown, even Jimmy Carter has supported them for another 10 years ... I understand very well either in the geo-strategy. It supported the Khmer Rouge even if they hated. It should support China, put a thorn in the back of the Soviet Union represented in Southeast Asia by Viet Nam. But I find inappropriate from the United States to pay money for this international court, so they committed themselves to crimes against humanity!
And the French position?
Rama Yade has come to bring money to the court. I have taken advantage of: "Okay, human rights, I too am for. But tell me how the various governments of the right or left supported the Khmer Rouge for 14 years?" . She said: "But you know, it was the end of the Sino-Soviet Cold War ..." . I told him "While the rights of man, you sit on it? Before they went into loss and profit on behalf of international politics. And now you reactivate? It appears to me not serious ... ". There she was very annoyed, did not know what to say. As for Americans, there were strategic reasons ....
Why are you talking about" international trial of hypocrisy ?
I can speak personally. I filed my testimony to the Committee on International Human Rights UN September 15, 1978. I'm really an alien past. "But what Did he just do that? ". I hardly believed it myself. The UN has agreed to pose some questions to the government Cambodia's it. Today, the international community considers those she supported. She gives lessons to the Cambodians that they do not deserve. What has been done to help them from 1975 to 1989? Nothing.
And why is it the "court of injustice"?
Douch lost the case on that day but his final was correct: "Well I worked with the court. I said what I knew about S21. I'm a bastard, I know. But I'm not the scumbag. There are other camps far greater than mine. I have killed Khmer leaders Red while others have killed tens of thousands of people. Them, nobody worried ". His conclusion is acceptable. There were still 198 torture centers in Cambodia! S21 is simply the most publicized prison ... It is largely due to the good preservation of its records. Duch was smarter to burn ...
Are there still an interest in court?
This trial is interesting in that it will perhaps shed light on history. Justice picks countless documents. In a few years if researchers want to trace the phenomenon "Khmer Rouge", they have documents to do so.
Interview by Marion Le Texier (www.lepetitjournal.com / cambodge.html) Monday, July 5, 2010
Ponchaud Father Francis has dedicated his life to the Cambodians, consoling their sorrows and listening to their doubts. First to condemn the Khmer Rouge and author of Cambodia Year Zero , no one can deny that is a leading authority on the subject. Interview bluntly about the trial of all the controversy ...
